NSW GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS LOCAL MANUFACTURING

I joined the Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott today for his announcement in Kurnell of the handover of 15 new flood rescue vessels to the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).

The NSW Government has invested $845,575 in the state-of the-art vessels that were put through their paces today during a demonstration in Botany Bay, off Kurnell.

CRONULLA TREATMENT PLANT TURNING FRUIT AND VEGIE WASTE INTO ELECTRICITY

I joined Lands and Water Minister Niall Blair today to announce the start of a trial to turn food waste into renewable energy to help power the Cronulla Wastewater Treatment Plant – the first of its kind for a utility in Sydney.

Renewable energy being produced from food waste will generate more than 60% of the energy the plant needs to run, which is enough to power 800-1,000 average homes and will save 150,000 wheelie bins of fruit and vegetables per year going to landfill.

MICK BRANNOCK NAMED 2016 CRONULLA SENIOR OF THE YEAR

I am delighted to announce Mick Brannock as the Cronulla Senior of the Year for 2016.

Mick has made an outstanding contribution to surf life saving in Cronulla over many years.

Since 1994, Mick has been the race organiser for the very popular “Sutherland to Surf” – a significant event on the Shire calendar, attracting over 8,000 racers each year.

The Sutherland to Surf is also the major fundraiser for Wanda Surf Life Saving Club.

$8 MILLION IN LOCAL HERITAGE GRANTS

I encourage local heritage item owners and managers in the Shire to apply for a NSW Government local Heritage Activation Grant to rejuvenate local heritage places.

$2.67 million of funding is available each financial year for three years to owners and managers of publicly accessible heritage items listed on their council’s local heritage registers.
