Today, I welcomed 24 medical graduates to Sutherland Hospital within the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, part of the 2020 annual intake of intern doctors funded by the NSW Government.
The new intern doctors would perform a vital role in the health system and will be based at Sutherland Hospital as part of their two year contract..
The two year internship is a vital step in ensuring our future doctors are amongst the best trained doctors in the world.
Across NSW there are a record 1,027 intern doctors beginning work this week, which is an increase of 257 positions or 33 per cent since 2011. The professional experience our new doctors will gain is key to the health and wellbeing of our citizens in the future.
The NSW Government is investing $107 million in the internship program this year.

I joined former Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein at the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre Liverpool, as he set off on a seven day walk to Canberra.
His venture “The Walk, Better Together” aims to raise awareness of the contribution of migrants and refugees to Australia’s community, economy and culture, sharing positive stories with a clear message that we are all “better together” - a message as important as ever at a time of heightened community tension.

Hey Mark when do you think that it’s about time that the NSW SLSC’s are self sufficient and can trade as Licenced venues exactly the same as they are in QLD north of the border ??
29 September is National Police Remembrance Day, commemorated across Australia and the Pacific, honouring police officers who have died in the line of duty - a sad reminder of the risks police face every day to keep us safe.
On Friday I attended the service at the NSW Police Force Wall of Remembrance in the Domain, where 276 names are now inscribed on the wall.
I also attended an earlier and poignant local service at the NSW Police Memorial at Woronora Memorial Park Sutherland. ... See MoreSee Less
